01 · WHY PEOPLE MOVE

Why New Jersey buyers look at Tampa Bay

No state personal income tax. Florida does not impose a personal income tax, so individuals have no Florida income tax return to file—a major change from New Jersey’s graduated state income tax. Source: Florida Department of Revenue

Year-round boating and Gulf access. Buyers coming from the Jersey Shore, Monmouth and Ocean counties, or North and Central Jersey suburbs such as Bergen, Morris, Essex, Somerset and Middlesex counties find that Tampa Bay, Boca Ciega Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and residential canals stay open for boating all year.

Three counties, different feels. Walkable waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg, peninsula neighborhoods in South Tampa, and Gulf-access canal homes and inland communities in Pasco County give you distinct options across the region.

A little planning goes a long way. Waterfront homes come with a few extra things to check, like the seawall, dock, fixed bridges and water depth at low tide. The checklist below keeps it simple.
